How we are funded
Who pays for this, and who does not
Independent testing is only independent if the money is. Here is what we will not take, and why the answer matters more than the usual line about integrity.
What we do not take
- No payment from any brand for testing, for placement, for a score, or for speed.
- No advertising on this site, from anyone, in any format.
- No affiliate commission. There is not a single revenue generating link on this website.
- No sponsored content, and no brand approval over anything we publish.
- No equity in, and no ownership of, any brand we review.
Those are the rules that make the results worth reading. Every one of them costs us money, which is rather the point.
What testing actually costs
Two things. Buying the product at full retail, because we cannot accept samples, and paying an accredited laboratory to analyse it. Both scale directly with how many brands we cover, so the honest constraint on this project is not enthusiasm, it is the number of assays we can afford in a year.
This page is deliberately incomplete. We are finalising how the programme is funded going forward and we would rather publish nothing than publish a vague sentence about supporters. The specific sources will be named here, in full, before any brand carries a published score. If that has not happened by the time you are reading a score, hold it against us.
How you will be able to check
When funding sources are published we will name them, say what proportion each represents, and state whether any of them has a commercial interest in psilocybin. Where a funder does have such an interest, that will be disclosed on every result rather than buried here, and that funder will have no say over what gets tested or what gets published.
If that changes
If we ever take money that could compromise a result, the correct thing to do is to say so loudly rather than to quietly stop mentioning it. We would expect you to stop trusting the results at that point, and you would be right to.
