Dosing studies
What is actually in a microdose
Our dosing work asks one narrow question that nobody has answered properly. When a label says a number, how close is the capsule, and how much do capsules from the same jar differ from each other.
Status. This work is in progress and no findings have been published yet. Nothing on this page should be read as a result. We are describing what we are measuring and why, so that the method is public before the numbers are.
The question
Almost every conversation about microdosing assumes the dose is the dose. Someone says they take 125mg, someone else compares it to their 200mg, and an entire folk pharmacology gets built on numbers that nobody has verified. If those numbers are unreliable, then a lot of what people believe about what works is built on sand.

What we are measuring
- Measured psilocybin and psilocin per unit against the labelled amount.
- Spread between units drawn from the same purchased lot.
- Whether spread differs by format, comparing capsules against gummies and chocolates.
- Whether products bought months apart from the same brand hold the same content.
Why format probably matters
Capsules, gummies, and chocolates are made in very different ways, and each has its own way of going wrong. A capsule can be filled unevenly. A gummy or a chocolate involves mixing an active ingredient into a warm medium that then sets, and if the mix is not even, or if heat degrades some of the active, the finished units can vary in ways that are invisible from the outside. We expect to find that some formats are meaningfully harder to make consistently than others, but we are not going to say which until the data says so.
What this work will not tell you
It will not tell you whether microdosing works, what dose you should take, or what any of it does in your body. Those are different questions requiring different studies, most of which have not been done well. We are answering the narrow question we can answer rigorously, which is what is in the product.
Results will be published here in full as they come back, with the underlying lab data attached, including any that make a brand look bad and any that undercut what we expected to find.
